The 2025 Clinical Research Skills Workshop

Research activities in a tertiary university hospital are part of the health service’s strategic plan and can ultimately improve patient care. In keeping with this strategy, this workshop is designed for anaesthetic and intensive care departments at Gold Coast University Hospital to improve research opportunities for clinicians.

This is a one-day event being held on Friday 25th July, 2025. Your Course Convenors are Dr Rachel Bourke and Dr Kerina Denny.

Professor Paul Myles

Professor Paul Myles

Professor Myles is Chair of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Monash University, and Director of Research in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

Professor Bala Venkatesh

Professor Bala Venkatesh

Over a 20-year career, Professor Bala Venkatesh has played a major role in the development and establishment of academic intensive care medicine in Australia through outstanding contributions to education and research.

Dr Paulina Stehlik

Dr Paulina Stehlik

Paulina is an experienced researcher and academic. She has a special interest in clinician engagement in research and evidence-based practice and leads the ENHANCE project, a program of work aiming to improve the research training of medical specialists.

Professor Andrea Marshall

Professor Andrea Marshall

Professor Marshall is an experienced clinician and academic whose research interests are focused on the areas of nutrition, intensive care nursing practice, and person centred care.

A/Professor Mark Jones

Mark Jones is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics at the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare, Bond University and Coordinating Editor of the Cochrane Acute Respiratory Infections Group.

Professor Gerben Keijzers

Professor Gerben Keijzers

Professor Keijzers’ research revolves around topics relevant to clinical practice in critical care, with a special interest in sepsis, appropriateness of antibiotic use and respiratory medicine.

The conference will be held in the large lecture theatre in E Block which is the building located opposite Gold Coast University Hospital
